Poor Movers and no protection for damage

A Plus Movers in CT were hired to load my storage container were late, unprepared and unprofessional upon arrival. All documented in real time. I had to insist that they use the protective blankets that I PROVIDED because they were damaging my inventory as they were moving my items into the storage container. They loaded the POD poorly resulting in over $4000 worth of damage, discovered after my POD was delivered and unloaded by very good movers I hired. This included a complete loss of my $3000 mattress. After providing all the photos of the damage, including how the container was loaded, I was offered $200 for my loss. The cap for the basic coverage for damage is $1000. The claims department refuses to provide the max protection. This is my third moving company I hired through HireAHelper in three years. I would not services again and I would not recommend them.

Best movers anywhere. Ever

Chuck and DJ were so great and went above and beyond. We were so pleased with everything and definitely recommend them to anyone that asks. We had an issue with one piece fitting in a room and Chuck figured it out and took care of us. Best moving help experience we've ever hired (8x moves). Not one single scratch or mark on any furtniture or wall...that's a first with any moving company! And thats moving huge heavy furniture, washer, dryer, fridge etc. Seriously just the best guys. So friendly, careful, courteous and crazy strong!!! Thank you so much for such amazing service!

Extremely disappointing and unethical service

I hired this company for a trailer loading job, paying in advance for four professional movers. On the day of the move, only three movers showed up, and no communication or refund was provided for the missing worker.

To make matters worse, they barely used the minimum required time, yet falsely added extra time to the bill. I had to go through the hassle of pulling Ring camera footage to prove they were being dishonest about their working hours.

After the move, I noticed damage and attempted to file an insurance claim. The company demanded excessive proof, including photo evidence of damage and proof that I provided moving blankets-only to ultimately deny the claim. Instead, they offered a paltry $150 "customer satisfaction" settlement, but with strings attached: accepting it would legally prevent me from leaving any negative review. This kind of tactic is not only insulting, it's manipulative and speaks volumes about their business practices.

I strongly advise others to avoid this company. Lack of professionalism, dishonesty, and unethical handling of claims make for a terrible customer experience. You're better off finding movers who value integrity and respect their customers.

DO NOT USE!

They will take advantage of your vulnerability! My husband and I needed to move within 24 hours and they showed up! great right?! No! They literally disassembled a sectional without letting my husband or myself know. We had already placed it for them to load it up into the truck, but instead they took it upon themselves to dissemble the whole entire thing to the point where we cannot use it anymore. Do not get the insurance because the insurance is a scam. They will not cover the damages! They bent our 50 inch TV broke two lamps and one cabinet. The customer service basically told me that it was my fault that my couch took itself apart during transit. My couch was $8000 and I don’t know about you, but in this economy, I do not have the money to buy a new couch! Please be aware of this company. They will help you out in a pinch, but it’s gonna cost you more than what you bargain for. I should’ve read the reviews, but was in a hurry to move. Penske told me they were five star moving company, but I know now they are definitely not.

Broker bad, movers ok

This is a broker service. There is no guarantee, and they have your cc information from the beginning, so good luck arguing unless you go through the fraudulent process with your cc company. I used movers in Michigan for a long-distance move. It was very difficult because it was a multi-day move. This is not a use local service though they mention this in the ad. The closest movers they recommended were over an hour away which also caused problems in completing the job. I was also charged for their travel time to my location!

Horrible service

They were late (no credit given for this), broke a very expensive lamp that the owner never tried to get in touch with me to compensate us for. The movers argued about who broke it and wasted time on that. Drug there feet and took longer than quoted for a 2 bedroom apartment. The reason we were given was because "they had come from a big morning job and they were tired". I got charged for an extra hour when they got "lost' driving to the new apartment. Where I had used Google maps and it took me right there. Absolutely unprofessional. I do not recommend this company.

Don't use Hire a Helper

The company that we picked through hire a helper never disclosed to us that we would have to pay extra for a "truck charge" until after they loaded the truck at a Pack Rat facility, drove it to the location that they were unloading the truck and only mentioned after 3/4 of the truck was emptied!! They truck drove away after we questioned this charge with items still in the truck, as the company said we had to pay an additional $400 for the truck charge before they would return and finish moving the remaining items. One of the workers hit on my daughter's roommate, the moving company was horrible and Hire A Helper did absolutely nothing to assist us with the bogus charge. We contacted the moving company immediately after booking them, just like hire a helper advised us to do and then spoke with the moving company several times leading up to the move and they NEVER mentioned an additional truck charge. Horrible customer service from Hire a Helper, would never use them again and will advise anyone that askes to never use them!!!

DON’T DO IT!!!!

I was scheduled for a 9am service with 2 movers. At 8:45pm the night before, Hire-a-Helper called from an 800# and left me a voicemail that they were cancelling my service because they had been unable to reach their contractor. Mind you, this appointment had been scheduled for days. I did not get the message until after I arrived at my destination. I asked them to provide me with another contractor.Hire-a-Helper refused to provide me with another service provider, whom they had contacted and spoken to, because it would have been an added expense on top of what I already paid, and I was unwilling to spend another couple hundred dollars for their screw horrible error. I absolutely did not and do not believe it was my responsibility to pay additional money because their lack of organization and communication failed.

I moved the entire house myself. It took me 9 hours.

NEVER again.

I should have a listen to all the poor reviews.

Shady business practice

Shady company... HireAHelper states that they provide complementary damage protection at $.60 per pound. I paid an extra $47.99 for the "move protection fee" and they still maintain they are only responsible to pay out $.60 per pound so don't pay for the "move protection fee". In addition, in order to get the meager payout they require you to sign a release that amongst other things requires you to "refrain from making negative, critical, or disparaging commentary, written or spoken, regarding HireAHelper LLC and its officers, directors, agents, and corporate affiliates." I suspect this is why they are rated so highly.

Read This Before You Prepay Them

I booked and prepaid for a two-hour service on October 1, 2025. The service I paid for was not performed, and absolutely no work was done.

After multiple attempts to resolve this with customer support, they have refused to issue a refund and have kept my full payment for a service that never happened.

I will delete this review after the issue is resolved. If you are reading this, it means HireAHelper still has not done anything about this, and the same could easily happen to you. Please be aware of this risk before you pay, as there are more trustworthy options available.

Avoid like the pla

Avoid like the plague. Used this service for a recent move with Rat Pack moving containers. Rat Pack referred me to Hire A Helper to hire people to load and unload my containers for an August, 2025 move from NJ to FL. In Florida 3 men showed up in an Uber. When they were getting towards the end one young guy asked for a garbage bag. I noticed him tying it up and said not to as I would put more paper in the bag. He said he would do it and I said no I would do it. He was being a little too insistent. I took the bag from him, it was one of the large black construction bags. I put the bag away and waited till they left. When I opened it there were several articles of my son's designer clothing (who recently passed away) and liquor he was trying to steal. About $650 worth. I still don't know if more is missing. One of the guys was dripping in sweat and laid down on the brand new carpet in the bedroom. It was a very hot and humid day and of course the house was cool with the ac running. I had given them $40 each as a tip. Hire a Helper did refund the tip money. However Hire A Helper is refusing to refund the whole amount. Jody's service said they would be willing to refund me back what they were paid by Hire A Helper. I believe HAH takes 30% as their fee. HAH claims I hired Jody's they did not. If I paid HAH how can they claim this? Just horrible customer service. They take no accountability for the people THEY RECOMMEND. I would NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY. They are just the worse.

Hire a Helper Charges an extra $75 per transaction.

Hire a Helper recently started charging and extra $75, as opposed to the $50 it use to add to the end of the bill for its portion from the customer. ALL A CUSTOMER HAS TO DO IS LOOK AT HOW MUCH THE COMPANY CHARGES PER HOUR, THE REST OF THE CHARGE IS HIRE A HELPERS ADD ON FEES.   Example: company A charges $50 per hour, the total charge for the 2 hours, if the company is booked outside of hire a helper, is $100. But if booked through Hire a Helper the same company is then booked with a $175 charge; the extra $75 goes to hire a helper for their "connection". SIMPLY GOOGLED THE COMPANY NAME AS LISTED ON HIRE A HELPER, FIND THEM ON CL AND CONTACTED THEM DIRECTLY. Save $75. Although on their own terms and agreements it says they add $50, they recently started adding $75.

Hire a Helper is CRIMINAL

THIS COMPANY IS CRIMINAL! So to start off, the sales woman gave me a quote on the phone for $325, then said oh sorry actually its $480 .. When I asked why she said because she needs to hire “Professional movers”, when I pushed the issue and asked aren’t they all professional movers, she changed it again and said oh I actually found another for $445 .. She then proceeded to tell me that she is scheduling 3 hours and if I need more time it’s an extra $120 an hour. Then the movers get here, they are amazing, it took them exactly 2 hours. After the move was done, I went online to give them a nice review and thats when I noticed my bill (my mistake for not checking this sooner) .. Their minimum is for 2 hours and the sales woman added an extra hour for $120. She didn’t ask me if I wanted the extra hour. She didn’t give me an option. She just decided for herself to charge me an extra $120 for an hour that I didn’t need knowing that I would not be able to get it refunded and knowing that if the movers when over the minimum they could have added the extra hour then. I called customer service to explain the mistake and they refuse to refund. I have clear proof from my security camera that the movers were only here for 2 hours and that their minimum is only 2 hours. DO NOT USE HIRE A HELPER!!!! Such a scam. Just call the movers directly, I highly recommend Crocs Movers, they were great.

Horrible Company!

Used Hire the helper back East & had a good experience… Ocean Side Southern Ca office HORRIBLE, STAY AWAY, poor customer service, horrible company. Their first movers ripped us off & now the ones they were sending out as replacements said “they had to cancel”no reason given with only 22hrs notice given. I’m now stuck with another paid rental truck & they act like I can use their next ones now at another 467.00 on top of the 375.00 I already paid for other company because it’s last min finding someone 22hrs before. Jose thought this was fullyAcceptable & I asked for his supervisor several times for him to just ignore me & “say there is nothing a manager can do” hey Jose let me teach some customer service skills…I didn’t ask you or tell you the reason I wanted the supervisor, when a customer asks for your manager /supervisor you say “ yes I will get her/him thank you please hold.”

Long story short if you are like me, you just would like reliable movers, who show up on time, do their job, for the day you booked your truck or PODS for, you also just want a company who won’t cancel last minute, or worse you don’t want them to steal, break, drop, treat your belongings like trash…you want them to treat your belongings like their own, THEN DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY & THE MOVERS THEY LIST. I PROMISE IT’S NOT WORTH THE HASSLE, THE PAIN, ALL THE MONEY YOU’LL BE OUT, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY YOUR PRECIOUS ITEMS BEING DAMAGED OR DESTROYED THAT MONEY CAN’T REPLCE! OCEANSIDE ( SOUTHERN CA. ) HIRE THE HEPER YOU BROKE LAW CANCELING WITHIN 24Hrs time limit… Jose you lied trying to say “2nd move was only booked today, because you knew by law you aren’t allowed to cancel within 24… that’s ok I have voicemails, emails, confirmation information & emails, that state replacement movers YOUR COMPANY HELPED WITH WERE BOOKED TUESDAY TH 6th not today the 10th & you cancel 22hrs notice!!!

See you in court!

Poor packing service In Florida

I heard three men not much needed to be pack. One of them one of the men did not do much he stood around and watched the other two do more. I have pictures of the stuff just tossed in a 26 foot long truck they should only taken 20 feet of it I mentioned this numerous times that I needed to put more stuff in the back so I can open the back and get it they do not care. It was not packed tightly I have not been able to unpack it yet not till the first. To the next person that uses the service make sure you read the fine print I would not ever use them again and this is the third time I have use hireahelper. It cost was about $400 and it was not worth it at all very Poor packing job computer screen is broken because they threw wooden dowels on top of it and they knew the box was open and there was a computer on it. I had mention to the movers that I had to go 1400 miles I need a package tightly went on death ears I had to tell the movers to put moving blankets that I had underneath the couch and not lay it on the floor of the truck for 1400 miles it would’ve really damaged it I do not know if it’s damaged at this time or not. Needless to say I definitely feel sorry for the next people that use this mover. I’m sorry I do not know what else to say about the poor loading job. Buyer beware

Unprofessional, unreliable

I booked my help through this company. They showed up on time and loaded my furniture in PODS. We did not see inside the POD until we unloaded. They’d pushed a gloss-black piano flush against a raw 2x4 frame piece. Other items were mishandled as well. I had scheduled them to unload as soon as they finished loading. The morning of the scheduled unload I got a text from the man in charge saying his help cancelled and he was trying to find more help. I texted him later to try and reschedule, then again a few hours after that. He never responded to either of my texts. I wound up unloading it myself with the help of my son-in-law.

Beware of HireAHelper.

I recently booked a moving company as advertised on their site at $85 per hour with a minimum of 2 hours service. I then had to provide all my information (plus some), including my credit card, to get the final price (assuming it to be about $85 X 2, right?). When I clicked the continue button (or what ever it was labeled) my order was confirmed/done..without seeing the final price. I then received an email for a price of $449. What? I call the company immediately to cancel the move as this total was NOT provided when I had to give my credit card information. When I called, immediately after receiving the email with the price owed, I was told that I would be charge a $85 cancellation fee that would be provided to the movers because the move was for the next day and it was less than 24 hours. After telling them that the scam was outrageous I asked them to please call the company while I was on hold to see if they would waive the fee. They then put me on hold for a couple minutes to "act" like they called the company. When she came back on she said simply that it was cancelled. I then called the company directly to thank them for allowing the cancellation free of charge. Here's the kicker..the company was NEVER called NOR had they ever received any cancellation fee from HireAHelper when a job was cancelled (which had occurred a number of times). HireAHelper flat out lied to me ..twice! All I needed was 30 minutes of fairly simple moving help from a small trailer into storage and ended up working for an hour to get out of a $449 fee that was not communicated to me prior to my acceptance. In addition, the company that I had requested said they had no way to communicate with HireAHelper to ask them questions or communicate their own concerns. Customers Beware! Just go straight through the company as it will be cheaper and safer.

Great Company.

I called hire a helper to get someone to move all my stuff out of a jam packed storage unit that was 10’x30’ into a 26’ truck in Las Vegas and then unpack the truck into a 12’x28’ unit in Angels Camp, CA. I worked with two seperate crews, one in Vegas & one in California. The communications were top of the line from when I booked them several weeks ahead of time to the very last minute, not to mention how impressed I was by the crews ability to get all the work done in a very efficient & timely manner.
I will most certainly be calling them again to move all my stuff into my house once it’s built!

LA Moving Centre, Inc.

LA Moving Centre, Inc. is fabulous. The owner is "hands on" to insure the highest of standards are met. The movers were careful to protect both the articles being moved and the walls of the houses (to and from)into which they were moved. The workers were fast, efficient, and pleasant. In short, they were very competent and professional making the experience for me stress free. The cost of the move was very competitive and I knew what the end cost would be right up front. There were no hidden charges.

The company provided everything needed like the appropriate size truck, dollies, pads, and plastic wrap so I was worry free.

My move was local and I had done all of the packing, but I would not hesitate to hire them for a longer distance and for help with the packing.

I had no prior knowledge of this company and booked them online. I feel so lucky to have selected LA Moving Centre, Inc. Hopefully this review will help you make the same choice.

The Facts About Hire a Helper (Fair Review).

The problem with your review is that it did not supply any verifiable facts. I had the good sense to do a little research regarding Hire a Helper. It was based on their prices. I wanted to know why they were higher than other moving labor companies.       These are the facts: Hire a Helper is not a moving company. Hire a Helper does not do the work or is liable for what happens on location.   Hire a Helper was successfully sued on 2010 (Here is a Newswire regarding the suit http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/movinghelpcom-uses-lawsuit-to-put-an-end-to-competitors-misuse-of-trademark-and-intellectual-property-104530219.html)   Because of the lawsuit, Hire a Helpers cost significantly went up.   You do not need to use Hire a Helper to hire the same movers you will find on hire a helper.       The lawsuit was about how the owner was a hacker and stole a lot of elements from Movinghelp.com and created Hire a Helper. (why give info to a known hacker). The lawsuit didn't disclose the amount, but they did say Mike Glanz (hire a helper) has to pay on a regular basis, but didn't state how long (indefinite?).
Now we are beginning to understand why Hire a Helpers prices are higher than the rest. Sure, their site gives a feel of being credible and honest; But a closer look at the companies situation indicates otherwise.   Why would customer pay his longstanding debt? Isn't moving labor suppose to be a cheaper alternative to moving? That's why I was looking for movers in the first place, to find cheap but professional movers for just labor (load my rental truck).   When I read the review posted, I suspected it was from someone at Hire a Helper. You see a lot of reviews with conclusory statements (they state conclusions but do not state the reason or any proof at all for them). And for some odd reason, the truth doesn't seem to be in any of the reviews.   These are facts, verifiable by a simple google search regarding hire a helper, and by looking at hire a helpers website. On there, they let you know, on top of the regular cost the movers charge, Hire a Helper adds another $50 to it. And they also get 15% off the movers charge for a "marketplace fee". So, instead of just paying the movers their hundred, you pay $150, and Hire a Helper (who does not work and has no legal liable to what happens on location) gets $65 per order on average.   Conclusion, is Hire a Helper a scam. The answer is No. But their history and legal issues did drive up the cost of their business (crime & punishment). There are other companies who can connect customers to movers for a lot less..like movinghelp.com for example.   FYI, after reading Hire a Helpers history, I decided not to go with them. I simply googled the name of one of the companies you can find on their website. I ended up hiring the company directly for $90, whereas Hire a Helper was trying to charge $145 for 2 men 2 hours for the same movers.   Hire a Helper equals to HAH, yeah right! Quote straight from their page: " HireAHelper will retain fifteen (15) percent of the fees quoted. In addition to the fifteen (15) percent fee due to HireAHelper, an additional $50 fee applies to each completed Order. This fee of fifty (50) dollars will be automatically added to each Order." (Source https://www.hireahelper.com/sign-up/, terms and agreement: section 7. Standard Payment and Reviews) (Uhaul Public Relations via Newswire: http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/movinghelpcom-uses-lawsuit-to-put-an-end-to-competitors-misuse-of-trademark-and-intellectual-property-104530219.html).

Hire A Helper (HAH) is a NIGHTMARE company!

Hire A Helper (HAH) is a NIGHTMARE company, DO NOT USE THEM, they are the WORST company I have ever used! Remember you are paying HAH, NOT the people or company they choose and send out; no mater what happens HAH does NOT take any responsibility, or try to help? I recently called them for a simple move, from one APT to another in the same complex. Their company rep Casper of HAH booked and recommended a company based on the reviews this company had with HAH. They did no background checks at all! The company HAH booked sent out two men that were NOT employees, and had never worked for them before? They were hired out of a day labor hiring hall! They showed up late, with no moving tools, in essence moving dollies, no experience moving anything! They were completely un-prepared for the move! One was a chain smoker, and looked and acted like he was a “METH HEAD” he smelled so bad who knows when his last shower was? I found out later he was homeless!! I called up HAH and was put on hold via a reordered voice stating that no one could answer my call, to leave my number? I needed help right then! I called the moving company HAH hired and they just said “okay I will cancel and pull my men!! Just leave me hanging! The “METH HEAD” wanted his money from me! I told him no way! He put up his fists and threatened me!! I said okay come on! He backed up 10 feet! He then said you better pay me! I said or what? He said he was going to call the Police and I said fine, we both called the Police, “HAH is a NIGHTMARE! The Police showed up and the other moving man was my witness to the “METH HEAD” threatening me, and demanding his money! He was calling me names and yelling at me in front of all the new neighbors in my new APT complex! He also called his mommy! She showed up just before the Police did! My witness (the other mover) proceeded to tell the Police the story, and how the “METH HEAD” threaten me! The Police asked me if I wanted him arrested, but he would then know my name etc. I said no and they let him go. He took photos of my car and License plate before the Police showed up. Now I have to check my car constantly and stay up late at night to watch it, for weeks now! I called HAH on that Friday and told them what happened. They said “Wes” would call me on the following Monday. I left Wes an email on that Friday. Monday no call nothing! So I left Wes another email stating that I was going to leave this review! He finally called me. He was VERY RUDE and condescending, he threw things in my face that I mentioned to the two HAH reps I had spoken with, as if they were NOT true? He knows nothing about the things I mentioned! Wes offered nothing and took no responsibility for the HORRIFIC experience I had! If Wes worked for me and treated a customer the way he did me I would fire him! This is “Hire A Helper” I’m sure these NIGHTMARE scenarios happen all the time with HAH! DO NOT USE HAH AND RISK THIS OR WORSE HAPPENING TO YOU!
